Grim Fandango

Grim Fandango, released in 1998, is an adventure game, developed and published by LucasArts. It is considered by many critics to be one of the best of its kind, having built a HUGE fanbase throughout the years. It consists of an eerie and fascinating scenario that revolves around Manny, a soul reaper, and is based on the Mexican celebration called 'Day of the Dead'. This single-player point-and-click old school game is addictive. It contains demanding puzzles, a jaw-dropping story, characters-to-remember, and film noir aesthetics. Basically, it’s impossible not to fall for it. Plus, if you’re a dark humor enthusiast, you’ve found your happy place. It’s also worth mentioning that, if you’re not into older-Gen graphics (HOW DARE YOU), you can give a shot to its remastered version. Thus, if you haven’t played this gem already, do yourself a favor and give it a try!

The Longest Journey

Ah… The Longest Journey. The game that made me burst into tears with its touching story and its lovable characters. Dirty alleys with blur colors in combination with magical kingdoms, are flawlessly conveying intense feelings and morals about life. It’s good to know that, even though it’s not in general a particularly hard game, it contains some almost-impossible-to-be-solved puzzles. The story revolves around April Ryan, a girl who can shift through space and time, as she tries to maintain the world’s balance. Developed by the Norwegian studio Funcom and released in 1999, it deepens in character’s backstories and it requires creative and out-of-the-box thinking. All of its arcs are perfectly made, with dreamy aesthetics and sophisticated themes. This point and click adventure will drag you into a world full of enigmas and obscure puzzles, that will test your limits. It’s a personal favorite! Also, you have to know that apart from the original, old-school title, spin-offs were released. Titled Dreamfall and Dreamfall Chapters respectively, they remain moving and intense, but without having the Longest Journey’s charm.

Super Metroid

This action/adventure side-scrolling game focuses on exploration and action and its scenario is as follows: Samus Aran, a bounty hunter, travels to the planet Zebes, an infant Metroid creature stolen by the Space Pirate leader Ridley. The classic old-school style and the interesting plot, contribute to making this game a very good choice. You owe it to yourself to play it, since -except for interesting and amusing, it is legendary as well. But, just a piece of advice before you hit the ‘’start’’ button: remember that its important to learn patterns and tricks if you wanna beat the bosses -or you'll end up like me, struggling for weeks and getting into rage mode, after losing to them for the 478th time!

The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda: This timeless classic released its first title in the distant 1986 and, ever since, it doesn’t stop evolving and improving. Having a huge impact on the gaming industry and affecting many later titles, Nintendo’s masterpiece is undoubtedly a must-play. Its story tends to follow Link, an elfen-eared boy who tries to save the pretty princess Zelda and defend the Hyrule Kingdom from evil Ganon. However, plenty of different settings and villains have been presented throughout the years. This game feels traditional and revolutionary at the same time, while the memorable adventure it presents won’t allow you to move your eyes away from the screen. It offers a captivating experience and the charming graphics alongside the beautiful soundtrack will immediately captivate your heart!
