Sony Revealed the PS5 Controller

Sony finally revealed the PS5 Controller to the world in a PlayStation Blog post on April 7, 2020. Specifically, the company revealed the name and attached the first photos of the controller. We are talking about the DualSense, which promises to bring a new sense of ...touch to the players and, in combination with Tempest 3D AudioTech technology, it will offer an immersive experience.

Both the name and the appearance of the controller differ from what we’ re used to. Even though Sony assured that it has kept the majority of the features that players loved with the DualShock 4, the truth is that a new PlayStation era is just around the corner.

The focus is on the sense of touch, since it includes adaptive trigger buttons, that can change their vibrating tension for different activities, such as when driving a car in the mud or run in a field for example. In addiction, L2 and R2 are adaptive triggers as well, so they vibrate when needed. Plus, you can say goodbye to your favourite headphones, because this controller uses a built-in microphone.

Sony’s designers faced a big challenge in order for the controller to include all these features, but -at the same time, keeping its size and weight as low as possible. You also need to know that the team is working hard in order to build a battery with as high as possible maximum life. Moving on to the futuristic looks though, it’s the first time where a PlayStation controller, includes two colours instead of one. Last but not least, the ‘share’ button belongs to the past and it has been replaced by ‘Create’ -a feature Sony will reveal in the future!

It seems like we have many reasons to be cheerful for, since the Sony Interactive Entertainment president, Jim Ryan, said in the revealing blog post:

The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future.

PlayStation 5 is expected to be released in Holiday 2020.
