XE Video Game System or simply XEGS is a home console released by Atari in 1987. The console released when Nintendo Entertainment System was dominating the market in hopes of taking some part of the market pie. XEGS was actually a hybrid system that could be used as a stand alone console and a fully operational computer. It was available in two packages. Firstly, it was the basic set with only the console and the joystick and secondly the deluxe set with the console, the joystick, the keyboard and the light gun. XEGS was based on the Atari 65XE home computer model and has backwards compatibility with all the Atari 8-bit family games. In addition, 32 games were released for XEGS and packaged in blue boxes instead of the usual silver boxes. In general, XEGS didn't have the sales or the quality of Nintendo Entertainment System.
